The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida invites applications for a 9 month, tenured/tenure track, full-time, position at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in the Engineering School of Sustainable Infrastructure and Environment (ESSIE). ESSIE is seeking dynamic, highly qualified individuals interested in developing a nationally recognized program and collaborating with a dynamic and collegial faculty in the ESSIE Structural Engineering Group. Anticipated start date of August 2019.
The University of Florida is home to a world-class Multi-Hazard Research program. Faculty within our structures group provide the leadership for the Center for Infrastructure Protection and Physical Security (CIPPS) (http://www.cipps.eng.ufl.edu) and the NSF Natural Hazards Enginee59323ring Research Infrastructure (NHERI) (https://ufl.designsafe-ci.org/) Experimental Facility (EF). CIPPS is involved in the development of innovative theoretical, numerical, and experimental approaches to protect society from terrorism and weapons of mass destruction in a well-coordinated collaboration between governments, academic institutions, and private organizations. Our CIPPS facilities include unique impact testing equipment for materials and structural elements, high-speed digital and optic data acquisition, and a computational cluster. Our NSF sponsored NHERI EF is one of seven such shared use experimental facilities in the United States established to address the nation’s needs in natural-hazard mitigation. As a member of this EF cohort, UF provides unique and synergistic wind hazard experimental facilities, cyberinfrastructure, and education and outreach capabilities.
Outstanding candidates with research expertise that complement and expand our current multi-hazard focus are invited to apply. The faculty member will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses within the structural engineering curricula; initiate and sustain externally-sponsored research programs; recruit and supervise graduate students; and engage in service activities for the University and the profession.
Applicants must possess a PhD in a related field by August, 2019. Dedication to excellence in research, teaching, and service, and evidence of scholarly achievements are required. The candidate should have a record of or demonstrate the potential for successful proposal writing, PhD student mentoring, scholarship, and classroom teaching.
