The School of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue University is seeking an accomplished and innovative leader to serve as the J. William Uhrig and Anastasia Vournas Head and Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics. The School of Aeronautics and Astronautics is consistently recognized as an international leader in the quality of its educational programs, along with the innovation and depth of its graduate research program and its technology and workforce impact on the aerospace industry. With approximately 800 undergraduate students, 500 graduate students, and 37 faculty members, the School is among the top six programs in the US. Purdue Engineering takes pride in being at the pinnacle of excellence at scale—the dynamic AAE Head that we are seeking will lead the School in vigorously exploring how AAE can attain further excellence in learning, discovery, and engagement with the aerospace sector. Applicants must demonstrate an understanding of the current needs and future direction of the rapidly evolving aeronautics and astronautics sector. Successful candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering or related discipline and meet the qualification of a chaired full professor in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering with tenure, based on an outstanding record of independent and impactful research, graduate and undergraduate teaching, and professional service at national and international levels. The successful candidate will provide vision and leadership to a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff; will teach as appropriate; have a strong commitment to advancing diversity, inclusion, and collaborative environments; have demonstrated superior communication skills, experience in administration and resource management; and the ability to develop strong stakeholder relations, particularly with other units within the College of Engineering, alumni, and government and industry partners.
